Here for your perusal, enjoyment, and general digging around in are tutorials I have written as well as the common 3D links that I frequent in search of info, techniques, models to play with, etc., etc....

Tutorials by me:

Mini Texture Tutorial - This is a mini-tutorial on how I create the hull textures on my starships.

Model Archives

3D CAFE(tm) by Platinum Pictures - The Great-Grandaddy of all free model sites (as well as other free and pay stuff).

Viewpoint DataLabs - The grand-daddy of all Pay-Per-Mesh sites.  If you can afford to buy stuff of these guys, I envy you.    The do make some good stuff though in their high-end models.  Have been used in countless movies.  Say what you will about the plot of the movie, but they also did the modelling for the newest Godzilla.

Evelio's Babylon 5 3D Model Index - Best central archive of Babylon 5 models.  There's plenty of GREAT Lightwave models here (my program of choice).  I started out in Lightwave by collecting some of these and then playing with them, disassembling them, and rendering with them.

Babylon 5 3D Objects - The site of one of the best Babylon 5 Lightwave modellers out there (down as I write this but I believe the URL is still good).  Hint, dig around in the links that he lists, as I found some great stuff there that is NOT on Evelio's or other sites.

StarWars The 3D Modeling Alliance - THE absolute PREMIERE Star Wars Modelling site.  The main problem is that they're primarily for 3D Studio users, of which I am not.  Can still have fun with them in Lightwave with a bit of conversion work.

Coruscant Spaceport - Another Star Wars object site, including Prequel meshes and a project to build all of Corescant!

The Mech Constructors Association - Fans of Battletech need to check this site out for 'Mech meshes to play with.  And boy-howdy do they have alot of them.  Multi-format.  Primary format for alot of them is trueSpace .cob files, but all of them at least have a .dxf export version as well.

The MOVIE MESH SITE - Has some VERY nice Aliens meshes, including the recently release Sulaco.

The Star Trek Meshes and Objects collection - Very good site for your Star Trek mesh fix.  Multiple formats, including some good Lightwave ones (including the Dominion >:)

Wolf359 GATEWAY Hi-Res - Probably the most "Sierra-Hotel" Star Trek 3D artists out there.  The bad news is that they hardly ever update, have only a limited amount of meshes for download, and none are in Lightwave :(

Geo-metricks - Nice low-rez / VRML models to purchase that can very effectively be used in backgrounds.  Relatively cheap too.

REM 3D BANK - Another Pay-Per-Mesh site that also offers a type of yearly "membership" rate structure.    Nice models if you can afford to buy in.

Tutorials

3D Design Online - Nice archive of tutorials, many of which are Lightwave.  Has a good recent tutorial two-parter (magazine and online) about space & ship stuff.

LightwaveDave - Those of you wanting to know about how I did the texture mapping, this is where to find out.    I primarily use these techniques when surfacing my models.

technoGEEK - Home - Has some GREAT tutorials on how to make things go "BANG" in Lightwave.  There are a couple of other sources out there for the same info, but all of it's centrally collected here.  Also has some really nice models to download and play with.

3D digital artist Eni Oken - OK, no true tutorials here, but if you want feel inadequate in your texturing efforts, go here.  Seriously though, check out her site for EXTREMELY good examples of what can be accomoplished with good texture mapping.

That's about it for now.  Check back later.  If I find new stuff, I'll post it here!
