Damian de Courtenay
Background Data File
Born: 348-1076
Birthplace: Regina/Regina
Parents: Both still living on Regina
Siblings: (1) brother, older, missing (presumed killed in the 5th
Frontier War). Brother was in the Imperial Navy.
Damian grew up far from the large cities that dot Regina's surface. His
parents owned a successful equestrian center, breeding and selling
mounts to the planet's aristocracy and elite. (In other words, dealing
with people with more money and spare time than common sense.)
Being the youngest son, Damian was often over-looked by his parents.
Having demonstrated a definite knack for self-sufficiency at an early
age, his parents tended to leave him to his own devices, devoting their
attention to his older brother. This left Damian to lose himself in the
countryside surrounding their home, where he became quite familiar with
the flora and fauna of Regina and grew to love the beauty and solitude
that the wilds can have.
At the age of 18, his parents concluded a deal with a rather wealthy
noble to deliver some riding mounts to the noble's home planet. Damian,
being the closest to all of the animals on the estate, was chosen to
accompany them on the voyage, to make sure they arrived safely.
Impressed with the young man's ability to care for the animals and their
apparent trust in the young man, the noble offered Damian the
opportunity to work for him, caring for his mounts and training them. He
accepted the offer gladly.
Damian spent several years in the noble's employment, accompanying him
on many journeys throughout the sector. He took the opportunity to learn
all he could about the environments of other worlds and was always
happiest when their journeys took them into the wilds, as opposed to the
larger cities and settlements.
His talents in the wilderness and his expertise with wildlife were
quickly noticed by his employer's friends, who sometimes hired him to
arrange and oversee wildlife excursions for them. It wasn't long before
Damian was in business for himself, organizing and leading
"safaris" for the rich and bored of the Spinward Marches.
The 5th Frontier War was not kind to Regina or to Damian's family. The
countryside took a terrible beating. But the worst for his family was
the loss of his elder brother, presumably killed in action. While he and
his brother were never close, Damian was very close to his mother and
the loss of his older brother has devastated her. Which is why Damian
now finds himself in the Starchaser Conference Center, undergoing the
final test. Perhaps, by becoming a Starchaser Operative, he can learn
the skills to find his missing brother.
