| Captain
Abstata Dunkensheel
(NPC) Abstata is a fairly short and slender human male in his mid-forties, average looking with olive skin and jet black short hair. He tends to dress in slightly worn business suits. He has problems speaking Galanglic, having been raised on the border world of Efate/Regina, in an area that has been traditionally mixing several known languages into a local dialect all its own for centuries. The captain is a humble man, and he is quite polite even at the worst times of stress. He won a repossessed merchant vessel in a lottery drawing run by TCI Salvage and Skiptracers Inc., in a last ditch effort to save a bankrupt firm. He paid a single credit for the ticket that won the old ship, hence the logo and the name of the vessel. Abstata is a lawyer by trade, and specializes in mercantile law and customs. He managed to pass the captain's test by sheer luck, and has obtained a temporary (six month) license to operate the vessel. He has hired a crew who is working on restoring the vessel during its travels, managed to sell passage to four passengers for the four working passenger staterooms (the others are being remodeled), has purchased some speculative goods, filled his low berths with passengers, and is now setting off for adventure in the life of a free trader merchant. The one major problem facing the captain, besides his total lack of knowledge of starship operations, is that he gets violently sick during hyperspace travel and has to travel in cryogenic storage himself. |
| Aashru "Ash" Narunir - Ex-Scout,
Pilot, working passage
Now retired at the age of 38 and with his own Scout ship, hes been longing for a little action, adventure, and credits outside of the Scout Service. Still very much endeared of the Service from all hes received from it, hell vigorously defend the Services honor in any bar. Ash is possessed of a high level of intelligence with a decent education through the Service, but hes very much down-to-earth in his outlook and personality. While certainly not the most attractive human around, hes possessed of an above average charisma and tends to deal well with people, using his skills as necessary to help the situation. He's 6'1" tall, has rapidly receding and greying brown hair with dark brown eyes, and has facial scarring from an explosive decompression accident. He tends to dress in a rugged but clean style, highly influenced by his years with the Scouts. He is seldom if ever seen without his utility vest on, which is usually packed (but not over-filled) with various and sundry personal items, survival gear, tools, and the occasional concealed weapon. Shipboard (and usually dirtside as well) he always wears a Scout extended-duty tailored vacc suit, being very paranoid about explosive decompression due to a near fatal hull breach during one of his Scout Special Missions. Ash is an excellent pilot, and a very serviceable engineer. He can easily fill either position in a professional environment. Comms and turret gunnery are other useful shipboard skills that he has, and is rated Class Two for EVA work. Hes also rated Class Two in combat rifleman, blade combat, and pistolcraft, and has strong opinions on weapon design and weapon preferences. |
| Mark
McHugh - Col, IMC, retired, First Officer and Executive Officer, Marquis of
Windsor/Glisten subsector/Spinward Marches Sector/Domain of Deneb [picture coming] PC - Rick Elrod 6'0", 185lbs, dirty blond hair, now graying, clean shaven, blue eyes. >>In good shape but not overly muscular. Very straight-backed and good posture (as a good Marine should be). Col. McHugh had a distinguished career, and was decorated many times for acts above and beyond the call of duty. McHugh was granted the title of Marquis by Duke Norris of Regina, for saving the life of the son of a high nobleman during the Fourth Frontier War. His skills are mostly in leadership and infantry combat, though he does have a few other skills (such as Medical, and Ship's Boat). McHugh found life as a noble very unsatisfying (after running into people all the time just like Sir Trevor), so he decided to go out on his own and >>adventure. |
| Dr Endthars Owen - Phd, MD, MCP - Passenger
PC - Rob Fortson Dr. Endthars Eugene Owen is a small, (1.65 m height) gaunt looking man that looks like he would fall over in a good breeze. His skin is lightly tanned which looks odd for this little man. He grew up in Teend where he won the world science fair in school, which earned him a scholarship to St. Matthews University on Teend. He studied Microbiology, finally earning his Ph.D. After graduating with high honors he attend the St. Paul Medical University were he became a doctor specializing in infectious diseases. After graduating from Medical school he discovered that something was missing in his life. He then joined the Imperial Navy but only stayed in for one term. This was NOT what was missing in his life. Dr. Owen dresses in non-restrictive casual clothes for the most part. He seems to lack some social skills due to the massive amount of time he has spent on a data terminal, but makes up for it in his enthusiasm and passion of his work or hobby. He has many certificates and awards for papers that he has published and would be very happy to share these topics with anyone. If one was to look at his hands you would find some blisters caused by his new hobby/passion, racquetball. At age 38 it seems that the good doctor wants to better himself physically. |
| Sir
Trevor Ashley - Knight of the Realm - Passenger [picture coming] PC - Matt Charron A tall, lanky man in his thirties, always dressed in the latest fashion of the nobility with the kind of sharp featured, yet handsome face you just want to punch. He is rarely seen without three personal valet droids trailing him. Born on Mora, yet with an Efate title, with the classic silver spoon. His only friends during childhood were tutors, servants, and robots; he never learned to socialize well with people. He quickly discovered he enjoyed friends he could create more than friends he could earn. He became a certified expert in computers and robotics. When Sir Trevor Ashley attained adulthood, his father granted him one of his lesser titles and arranged a position on the Board of Directors of a large corporation. After a verbal dispute with the CEO, Sir Trevor vacated his position and was quickly hired by Railin Robotics, Inc. on the Board of Directors as well as Administrative Liaison Consultant. Railin Robotics is a small business, just recently incorporated and is hoping to expand. It is mainly involved in the redesign, reprogramming, and refurbishment of already existing manufactured robots for specialization under contract or for more immediate resale. He had travelled to Regina on a "scouting mission" to research the existing robotic capability there (market manufacturing and existing robotic inventory) and determine market strengths for expansion. He was also to escort prototype droids back to Efate for existing specialization contracts and remarketing. |
| Yaine
Webecen - Steward
PC - Aylene Yaine Webecen is an attractive human female, with long glossy black hair. She is 5'3", and just shy of one hundred pounds, with a trim and slightly athletic build. Her wardrobe consists of a variety of fashionable tailored bodysuits, not skintight, but form fitting. She commonly wears shoes with elevated heels, in order to increase her stature. Her fashions tend to bring to mind a professional, yet colorful style. She never travels far without her porta-comp, and never leaves the ship without it, or her sunglasses. Yaine is charming in her reserved, courteous manner, and is the Lucky Credit's only steward. She is soft spoken, and carries herself with grace. Her dark eyes sparkle with intelligence. Her origin is a mystery. She speaks with an unusual and intriguing accent, which is easy to understand, yet hard to place. She carries an imperial permit for her identification, which allows her to work within the borders of the imperium. She is not an imperial citizen. She is never seen carrying a weapon of any kind, and Chief Engineer Hamlin can attest that Ms. Webecen has no skill in the operation of firearms. Her qualifications show she has much to offer the Lucky Credit, as Yaine has served as a merchant fleet steward for the past eight years. Three years ago, she was promoted to Assistant Purser on the Merchant Liner Lystrella's Crown. When the vessel had a jump drive failure several months ago, Ms. Webecen was forced to seek employment elsewhere. When most of the liner's staff had been hired by the local corporations, Yaine was left to seek employment in the independent free traders. |
| Katherine
"Kat" O'Malley - Second Officer and Chief Gunnery Officer
Kat was raised a native of a rural region on Regina. Because of her high intelligence she didnt feel like she fit in and was never really satisfied with the life and opportunities embraced by her siblings and peers. Kat chose to enroll in the Naval Academy but barely made it, squeaking by on her high IQ. She flunked out within the first year due to a combination of a lack of study skills and an inability to mesh with other cadets, particularly young nobles with attitudes. After washing out she immediately enlisted in the Imperial Navy where she served 4 terms. Though she learned a variety of skills necessary for shipboard operations she found that she didnt fit in there either. At the end of four terms it was apparent that she would never go far in the service so she mustered out. The Lucky Credit is her first berth since leaving the service. Now Kat dreams of saving enough credits to buy some property on Regina and never having to take anyones orders again. To that end she is usually willing to take on extra duties to earn money for her goal. Kat is 56", 130 lbs with a slender, toned build. She has medium length copper-colored hair usually worn in a simple ponytail. Kat wears a slightly worn gray spacer jumpsuit zipped down slightly with a plain white tank top underneath. Usually she has on a well-worn tool belt carrying an assortment of electronic and mechanical tools. When leaving the ship she is always armed with her military issue laser pistol and wears her military gunners jacket. Her manner is courteous, but frequently she seems to have her mind on other matters. |
| Jerrod Markuur - Ex-Scout,
Astrogator[picture coming]
Human Male Jerrod grew up on the ocean side Startown docks of Efate, a rather rough side of the city. He began working fairly young as a cargo loader, and at an early are got involved with the local criminal element. He began working as "muscle" for the local crime boss, and began a career as a member of organized crime. When his best friend was brutally tortured and murdered by the local boss for having an affair with the mans wife, Jerrod realized his life was headed in a really bad direction. At twenty-six years of age, he decided he needed a quick career change. He walked into the local Scout Service recruiters office and signed up. Two months later he was studying starship astrogation and fell in love. He found he had an intuitive grasp of the complicated calculations, and could plot the most difficult courses with ease. Several years later he was exploring outside the imperial border when he had a drive failure and crashed on a planet far from home. He spent several years with the natives on the planet, adopting some of their rich cultural as his own. He learned to hunt with the bola and ride the strange bipedal "lopers" they used for transportation and hunting. He managed to teach the natives better construction techniques for their homes and small farms. He also managed to impress the local chief by presenting him with a few nice gifts, such as night vision binoculars, a laser rifle with a solar recharging pack, and a light alloy survival knife for each of his sons. He was formally adopted into the tribe and was given a wife, the daughter of the chief. He had intended on staying until another scout ship entered the system and picked up his automated distress beacon still in orbit. They would not allow his wife onboard, and demanded he return to the service or be arrested as a deserter. Unable to take his wife with him on the return to imperial space and his IISS career, he chose to remain on planet. His wife knew he longed to return home to keep from being branded a deserter, so she announced the cancellation of their marriage vows and returned home to her father the chief. Understanding the sacrifice she was making on his behalf, he honored it and left, one day hoping to return. The scout service decided that Jerrod was no longer fit for active duty, since they felt he might try to return the planet he had left behind if given another scout courier. Jerrod is an imposing individual, rugged and slightly handsome. He stands 62" and weighs in at about 275lbs. He has jet black hair, and a short beard. He wears the typical scout service jumpsuit, but adds an off white cloak with intricate beadwork and stiching. He is quiet and normally a bit reclusive. He is nearly always accompanied by his faithful pet, a reptilian gliding water hunter named "hache-too-oh" (H2O). |
| Father
Ivan Petrokov, O.M., Capt. Imperial Army (ret.)
PC - Scott Looker Fr. Ivan Petrokov is an extremely attractive middle-aged man with a rugged build and well-muscled frame. His dark hair is graying at the temples and he wears a thick goatee. He most frequently wears his traditional black cassock but is commonly seen in the Order of Mishal's BDU (a combination clericus and combat fatigues). Frequently he wears a hooded, gray cloak, another symbol of the order. On his right forearm (which is generally covered) there is a tattoo of a cruciform sword, in honor of his patron saint. Ivan Petrokov graduated from Rishanna Damor University with honors in military history. He immediately enlisted in the Imperial Army and served two full terms. His combat record reveals that he was an excellent officer, leader and soldier earning him 4 Combat Service Ribbons, 2 Meritorious Conduct Under Fire Ribbons, 1 Medal for Conspicuous Gallantry. Following his second term he re-upped once more, but shortly thereafter, for reasons undisclosed, resigned his commission and joined the priesthood. Now, Father Ivan is a Roshvathi Catholic Priest in the Order of St. Mishal the Defender, called elsewhere Mishal the Archangel. The order is a militant order dedicated to protecting those who are unable to defend themselves. Father Ivan is well spoken and exceedingly polite. He is caring and compassionate and frequently offers to help in any way that he can. He is also a trained soldier and appears to have little compunction about using the skills he learned in the military when the need arises. |
| Romli
Hamlin - Chief Engineer
PC - Keven Pittsinger As a kid, Romli hung down at the starport watching ships go up and out into space. He knew someday he'd be on one. The military had no special thrill for him, and he didn't see himself as the kind of guy who'd do well in an extremely regimented lifestyle like the Navy. Although the Scouts got around, he was more interested in seeing relatively civilised planets rather than being the first one down on a virgin planet. By Hobson's Choice, this left the Merchants, and he tailored his studies in lycium to prepare himself. After graduation, he interviewed and applied to Sharurshid. To his surprise, he was not only accepted, he was sent to attend their regonal academy. He worked hard, discovering he had a talent for engineering. He graduated with honors, earning a reputation as a 'grind'. He enjoyed his first tour immensely. He was happy putzing around the engine room of the ships he was assigned to, picking up more skills he knew he'd need later on in life. It took him four years, but he worked himself up to Assistant Engineer, and he was on the 'fast track' to make Chief pretty fast. But being sent off to various schools, and shuffled off to various corporate subsidaries interfered with his promotion track, forcing him to take and retake the O-3 exams three times in two different departments. He learned to make money, or at least, how to scrape it away from the locals with some sharp trading, good enough so that he wouldn't have to be shot at quite as much as he maybe should have been. But after 20 years with Sharushid, and no closer to his own command than 2nd Officer, getting passed over by the latest crop of wunderkin got old, so he tried to take retirement. He was surprised to find that even with 20 years under his belt, the Company figured a way to screw him out of his retirement pension. On the beach with his little stake, his gear, and his trophy pistols from the years with the Company shooting team while it was briefly in vogue, he's ready to make some money, and maybe get his *own* ship someday soon. He answered an ad for a Free Trader called 'The Lucky Credit'... |
