August 7th, 2003 - Okay, so maybe not ALL new models, but maybe a couple of new techniques and other pleasentness ;) Here's a nice wallpaper for all you Scout fans (800x600, only 10% .jpg compression). August 5th, 2003 - Alrighty then! Time to start doing some more regular updates for awhile. Whaddya' say, good idea? Since I just recently finished work for GT:Starships, it's time to start posting some shots using the new models :) First up is an Atlantic Class ship under very early construction. June 15th, 2003 - I can hardly believe I haven't updated the site since DECEMBER!!! BAD JESSE, NO COOKIE!!!!! Sheesh! I'll be surprised if anyone notices this goes up unless I say something :\ Anyhoo, one of the reasons there's been no updates for so long is that I've been doing a LOT of work for SJG's Transhuman Space lately. Here's a humorous outtake from the High Frontier cover ;) And, here's a serious shot of the Steptoe DRV approaching a damaged AKV. December 27th, 2002 - I'm working on some shots for GURPS: Transhuman Space, and thought I'd share one of the cooler ones. Of course, this has been altered from what's appearing in the book, but it's basically the same scene file :) It's a shot of a cargo lander descending towards Mercury. August 27th, 2002 - So, last year at Dragon*Con I'm strolling down the street from my hotel to Con, and what should I find? Proof-positive that the Solomani Party already exists and has infiltrated the Atlanta Public Works Department ;) August 18th, 2002 - Just uploaded a couple of teasers for the new BITS cover with the gracious approval of Andy Lilly. Enjoy! Ghalalk fighting PFSloan dying August 11th, 2002 - Yet another test shot added to the below... August 7th, 2002 - Added another shot to the page below :) August 1st, 2002 - Two new ships in the stable. The Ghalalk & the PF Sloan. These were build for an upcoming BITS project. May 17th, 2002 - At the bequest of my most vocal fan of late (*cough* Jay Alverson *cough*), here's a shot of the Solomani Courier that appeared in Rim of Fire. May 7th, 2002 - I suck. It's official. I never seem to update this site very regularly anymore, much to the chagrin of some pretty loyal fans :( I hope to change this as production for my "Art of" book cranks up. Time shall tell :)~ In the meantime... March 5th, 2002 - Ick...As a little bird reminded me *cough* Jay Alverson *cough*, I haven't updated my site in a LLOOONNNNGG time :( Well, to make it up to all of you (if you're still there that is), I've uploaded two new pictures. Both use some of Flaming Pear's tres cool space plug-ins for Photoshop. You can find the new shots here n here. October 17th, 2001, 7:20PM - As promised on the TML, I've added some more shots of the ship. They're all on the same page, so just head on over to the URL listed in the post from earlier today! October 17th, 2001, 2AM - Just completed a new ship. You can check it out a shot just for you right here. July 12th, 2001 - Happy belated <insert holiday or birthday here>!!! I finally have posted the "leftovers" from Alien Races 3. Warning, it's gonna' take some time to download ;) June 14th, 2001 - Did a shot of Glis Ten for the TML & Brubek's crowd :) April 19th, 2001 - I threw up a quick lighting reference for those that are starting in 3D. April 15th, 2001 - Here's what's been consuming all my spare time lately, Glisten Highport. More images to follow after the cover is done and I can get the BITS D3ID cover done as well... February 28th, 2001 - This illustration is the result of chatter on the JTAS boards regarding descriptions writers should give artists. Works, doesn't it? :) February 14th, 2001 - Here's a shot of the new assault cutter with full cockpit that I did for the upcoming [fnord]. In case you're wondering, the module she's carrying is the orbital insertion module. February 12th, 2001 - I spent my birthday weekend making presents for YOU! Here's a new Scout ship shot with cockpit, and the reason I posted that Flaming Eye request to the TML..... January 16, 2001 - Yeah yeah yeah, I know I *still* haven't gotten around to putting up the backlog of pictures. My bad!!! <sound of board repeatedly smacking into my head> In the meantime, HERE'S a link to some information on how to build your own Hiver :) November 9th, 2000 - The Cutter Sourcebook is finally done, as well as the Beowulf Deckplans cover, so I may finally get a chance to put some new pictures up soon. I've got a backlog from at least AR3 of pictures that didn't make it into the books that I can post for everyone to enjoy. Stay tuned!!! October 11th, 2000 - Fire sale anyone? As some of you may have heard, if you're a TML subscriber, I recently had a "slight" incident involving a grease fire. Details, photos, and my thanks are HERE. August 31st, 2000 - I've FINALLY posted the Sulieman tutorial.....almost. You see, it's not quite finished < sheepish grin >. However, one of my online friends asked how I did what I do. One thing led to another, and I ended up posting that part of the tutorial that was completed. Hopefully I'll be able to finish the tutorial in the near future. For now, you can find the tutorial here, and continue on to the texturing phase with my older mini texture tutorial that's here. WARNING!!! If you're useing a modem, the Sulie tutorial could take as long as 20 minutes to download to your system depending on your actual connection speed. Under ideal circumstances, this tutorial takes 16 minutes to download on a 28.8 modem! August...uh, 20th now... - "Uhm....[tap, tap, tap]...Is this thing on?" Yes, I know it's been awhile since I posted anything 'real' to the site. I figured I'd try to bribe you with a couple of test shots from the Ground Foces cover :) Not everything is set up yet in these shots. There's no background or sky (the cover's going to be at night), the trooper on the right is still holding his FGMP instead of a satchel charge to throw down the blown hatch that the guy on the left is making, there's no explosion from the blown hatch, and there's some other stuff missing as well (buy the book to find out what ;) UPDATE: I added one other shot that shows (I hope) that there is some variance in the camo;) July 24th, 2000 - NEWS FLASH!!! I need your help for a survey on Battledress. I need responses sent to jdegraff@pacbell.net ASAP!!! UPDATE - Survey is ended. Thanks for the response!!!!!!!! May 29th, 2000 - Pictures from BayCon are up. Much fun was had at Strepon's Jubilee Party! May17th, 2000 - Did a shot to reference some comments that I made on the JTAS Discussion Board. May 11th, 2000 - Two shots for you folks that I did whilst I was chatting on JTAS. The first is just a re-texture on the Marava (I'll be doing a lot of those in prep for "Rim of Fire". The second is a request piece for Kurt Brown. May (MAY!!!!) 10th, 2000 - Okay, now I REALLY feel bad. I didn't realize it had been THAT long since I posted something. Time flies when you're buried in work I guess. To help sooth your withdrawl symptoms, here's a shot using "Rim of Fire" cover elements. There's a couple of surprises in there for you ;) March 23rd, 2000 - In keeping with tradition, I thought I'd post shots of the completed Hiver ships that I've done for "Alien Races 3". As I finish a ship, I render a "beauty shot" of it, i.e. a shot to go with the ship's description in the book. While I've been doing that, I've also been quickly (only takes about 2 minutes) rendering a shot for the TML. So here ya' go! March 1st, 2000 - Holy S#!t, is it really March 1st already? I have been SLACKING!!! Sorry about that folks. Here's a little shot I did the other day but never got posted. I have to get moving on "Alien Races 3" for Steve Jackson Games, so I'm not sure how much the site's going to be updated during March... February 9th, 2000 - Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy BIRTHDAY dear Jesse, happy birthday to me!!! :) Figured I may as well sing it to myself, 'cause I doubt anyone but my Mom or Sister is going to! Anywho, I'm playing around some more with new nebulas created with KPT5. This Scout is a result. February 7th, 2000 - I found a new toy!!! Kai's Power Tools 5 (KPT5) has a REALLY cool filter called FraxFlame among all of it's others. FraxFlame can make some damn cool nebulas. Here's the first example, among many more to come I'm sure :) February 3rd, 2000 - Ocean world shot, using stuff from "Starports". February 2nd, 2000 - I've been slacking in my duties to provide you folks with new art, so here's a new Fiery picture for you. Warning, it's at 1024x768 for nice wallpaper useage. I promise I'll start posting more :) January 25th, 2000 - No, I'm not dead. Just been too busy to do much, ok, anything, for the site recently. I HAS been nice taking a break though. Here's a little preview of what I'm working on for the Trav3D group as a bit of a teaser :) December 20th, 1999 - The character illo is complete. December 17th, 1999 - Next step in the character illustration process is "blending" the colors useing the "dodge" & "burn" tools in Photoshop. December 16th, 1999 - Whoops, missed the dailies again. Oh well. When I'm busy, the first thing to get neglected is this site. Sorry folks! For today, the next step in my character sketch. Cleaned up the scan a bit, filled in gaps, and filled the basic colors. December 8th, 1999 - The next couple of days that I have new stuff up will be In-Progress shots of a character sketch for my PBEM character. Since I forgot to scan the actual pencil sketch (oops!) I'll have to do a fake one later and post it. For now, the original inked scan is shown. Next up will be cleanup and basic coloring. December 6th, 1999 - Today's shot is of the "Blakeway" Class rescue ship conversion of the Sulieman Scout Courier. The "Blakeway" will be featured in Steve Jackson Games' upcoming "Starports" book. December 3rd, 1999 - Something different for today. How about a weird alien, similar to a Llellwo....oh, however you spell it.....? Idea started as a doodle while bored in a meeting, and I then transcribed it to fresh paper, inked, scanned, and colored in Photoshop. If you'd like to see more alien races (I'm doodling them all the time), drop me a line at jdegraff@pacbell.net so I know that there's interest. December 2nd, 1999 - Here's an out-take from the "Starports" back cover. The AD (Art Director) wasn't entirely clear in what he wanted, so this was the result. Turns out all he wanted was the ship with clouds behind. Doh! I wasn't entirely happy with the landscape anyway. November 29th, 1999 - For those in the U.S., I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! My work for "Starports" will finally be done when I finish the rear cover illo later today. Final tally: Cover, back cover, and SIXTY interior illos. Don't know if all of those are being used or not, but that's how many I sent in to Steve Jackson Games. I should be resuming the "Nearly-one-a-day" gallery additions in the very near future. Frankly, I'm pretty exhausted from all the "Starports" work and want to take a couple of days off. In the meantime, and pretty far Off Topic, check out this little page I threw up there from my trip (dare I say "pilgremage" :) to Oregon last year on the invitation of the TML's own Mark C. November 7th, 1999 - Fiery is finished! Took WAAAAYYY longer than I thought unfortunately. Rendered this shot for TML consumption, now it's back to the "Starports" work and making some environments to PUT the Fiery in :) November 5th, 1999 - A taste of Fiery :) Just finished modeling her and had to share. November 4th, 1999 - Holy Crap!! It's been a LONG time since I updated this 'site! I've got a couple of partial excuses of course :) One is my desktop system at home was down for nearly a month, during the course of which I accidentally blew away my old hdd's data, resulting in me losing a little bit of my recent work :( After getting my system back up, I had to dive into the throes of the deadline for the interior shots to go in "Starports". While I'm still working on it, here's a taste to whet your appetite. I'm a cruel bastard, aren't I? September 16th, 1999 - OK, so I slacked for a couple of days there. Whaddya' gonna' do, take away Christmas? :) Sometimes it's hard having a spastic cartoon around. Yesterday Ditzie informed me that she accidentally used my InterNIC invoice as a target, along with the late notice as well! Hopefully I can get a check to them before the domain gets shut down for awhile :-o I'll get my revenge on her..... Sept. 16th Part Duex - Hee hee, I got her >:D September 13th, 1999 - Ditzie was rummaging around in Uncle Hengie's antiques and found a nice MP5-10SD to play with. Translation: I played WAY to much of the Rogue Spear demo this weekend instead of working on Traveller 3D stuff like I should have been :) September 10th, 1999 - Today's scene is useing the clone vat tank that I did for a shot in SJG's "Alternate Earths 2", there's just a different subject in the tank. Warning: mild polygon nudity (but you should be able to handle it as you can see more in a PG movie...) September 9th, 1999 - You may well be saying to yourself "Hey Jesse, what happened to that one-a-day thing you promised a while back?" Ditzie says "Chill out, nerd-boy!". It's been a combo of things lately. One was another last minute special from SJG 'cause another artist bailed on their promised work at the last minute. Unfortunately I had to do this once for a single picture for technical reasons, unlike the 15 shots this guy bailed on 'cause he changed his mind about the pay rate. Chump. And secondly, I wasn't feeling to hot over the weekend. Here's a modified version of a shot for SJG's upcoming "Alternate Earths 2". I changed the hull texture map to have an Imperial Sunburst on it for this shot. I also did a wireframe fade for the curious :) This is an ongoing trend in the 3D community at large, and you'll be seeing more of it from me in the future. I've got one other shot working right now that may post later, or may be tomorrow's shot. September 2nd, 1999 - Well, I'm in the throes of another short-notice SJG request. This one calls for several unique things, of which a spacesuit is required. While not specifically in the Traveller universe, I'll use the suit in the future for it :) Here's a concept sketch for the suit. Haven't decided if I'm going with this exact design, or if I'll slim it down a bit during modelling to get it to a higher TL. September 1st, 1999 - For today, a new shot of the "happy fun ball", aka Mercenary Cruiser. Catch it here. August 31st, 1999 - Today's installment is a new Ditzie cartoon :) August 30th, 1999 - OK, did I mention that the something-a-day wouldn't happen on the weekends, at least for now? :) This is due to the fact that I do all of my site updating at a fast connection that's not at home. Hope you understand! Today's installment is a frontier refueling. I also re-created the background from my Acipiter beauty shot at Jory Earl's request. You can find it here Jory. August 27th, 1999 - New picture in the gallery. This is an out-take from the cover for a new BITS adventure module. Because of the no-notice deadline, Andy and I didn't talk much about the layout. Silly me, he wanted a SPACE scene, not an atmosphere scene :) As in a recent e-mail that I had with one of the TML'ers, I'm going to TRY to get something new up here every day from now on. It may not be much (like the fortune cookie), but it'll be something, dammit :) August 24th, 1999 - Just had to share this with you. What is it? It's a scan of the fortune I got in my fortune cookie during lunch. Thought it was rather appropriate with all the TML talk of t-shirts right now :)
August 23rd, 1999 - Wow, what a long weekend. Between Thursday and Friday I got a request from Loren at SJG for 18 MORE pictures by 9am today (Monday) for inclusion in GURPS:Space 3rd edition. I was a couple of hours late with two pictures, but that's not to bad considering I had to go to a house-warming party on Saturday and a Tactical Rifle Match on Sunday! When I get a chance, I'll render a few shots from some of the better ships that I designed in the rush to get those out by the deadline :) August 18th, 1999 - I've just completed my first Traveller Warship! Go to the Gallery for the description, or just hit it here if you don't want to load the gallery's thumbnails. I'm going to have to divide that up soon, it's starting to get a little bit out of hand and it's only gonna' get worse :) August 11th, 1999 - I've posted a comp of the current revision of the "Starports" cover. Comments are welcome as always!!! Also, I've put up another new section. Published Materials and Public Thanks does just that. It lists the publicatins that I've appeared in gives public recognition to those folks that have helped me along the way in creating a Better (Illustrated) Traveller Universe. August 2nd, 1999 - In the Weapons sub-page of Roger's PBEM section I posted of a pic I had some fun with in Photoshop. It started out as an HK G36 and I changed it into a good Traveller ACR complete with grenade launcher. I had a chance to shoot the real HK G36K a couple of months back, and let me tell you that is one SWEET rifle!!! In 3D news, I continue tweaking everything for the "Starports" cover. I may even be done soon, much to Loren's delight I'm sure ;) July 19th, 1999 - Beauty shots with plain backgrounds are up for the Vanderbilt and the Broadsword in the Traveller Gallery. I figured, since they're done, why post more progress shots when I can post the finished product :) I'm still working on the Type T. I'm not happy with the resulting geometry based on any existing canon or non-canon deckplans. I'll probably end up "fudgeing" it like I did with the Sulieman. July 15th, 1999 - Here's a lesson to all of you budding 3D artists on the TML. I lost 3 1/2 hrs of work on the Vanderbilt today because I forgot to save my progress. When doing 3D, SAVE OFTEN!!!!!!! I can't stress this enough. Usually I save after every 3-5 steps or so, but today I just totally brain-farted >>KA-BOOM<< and wasn't tooling happily along without saving a freakin' thing. Too all of my restraint to stop from breaking things. Oh, and I forgot the damn pictures of the Broadsword and Type T. I'm having a wonderful day, how about you? July 14th, 1999 - Progress shot of the Vanderbilt Class Yacht. I'm also working on the Type T and Broadsword, but don't have progress shots for them yet (forgot the pics). Keep meaning to bring these in and keep forgetting them :( July 13th, 1999 - New section, in name at least. Trav 'Toons opens today with a Traveller Mailing List cartoon. If you have a cartoon idea, mail it to me at jdegraff@pacbell.net and I'll see what I can do :) Don't forget that there are also a couple of other cartoons available. The Jedi one further down the list and the ones from the Ditzie threads. I may or may not consolodate all of them under Trav 'Toons. Haven't decided yet... July 12th, 1999 - As promised on the TML, I've put the mini texturing tutorial that I wrote for Andy Akin's up here on the site for all the TML 3D'ers to utilize. GOOD NEWS!! I found the Suliman tutorial documentation on an old ghosted drive, so that should go up soon! July 9th, 1999 - FINALLY got around to getting this website added to the Traveller Webring. Sometimes I procrastinate a wee bit too much... July 8th, 1999 - Added two new pics to the Gallery just-for-fun. News: I've currently JUST started work on the Broadsword, Lady of Shallot, and Type T Patrol Cruiser classes of ships for an upcoming G:T project. That oughta' take care of two of the most requested ships that I get in e-mail :) Sorry, no plans for doing the AHL....yet.... July 1st, 1999 - I was having fun with some new planetary textures and setups, and decided to make and post a picture just for the TML'ers out there, specifically the ones that are Scouts. If you've a favorite ship from my existing catalog that you'd like to see in some new pictures, then drop me a line at jdegraff@pacbell.net. June 30th, 1999 - This little Jedi cartoon was conceived and drawn during BayCon this year, but I only just got it scanned and posted. Yes, my friends and I are sick little monkies :) June 27th, 1999 - I've finally been able to start the process for producing vac-formed Traveller equipment. Friday I picked up some initial stock of hi-impact styrene and PETG plastic. PETG is clear vac-formable plastic for faceplates. Then over the weekend I constructed a vac-table and some frames. I screwed up on the neoprene bed on the vac-table, but I hope to pick up some replacement foam today after work or during lunch hour. I also started sculpting the first piece for combat armor, which is simply the back-of-the-hand armor piece on the gloves. Yes I could probably just cut out the shape and curve it slightly with a heat gun, but it'll look better with a little bit o' detail on it. It's also a nice simple piece to get started with :) I'll create a new section with progress shots as soon as I can get my video-capture system back up and running correctly. June 18th, 1999 - I've done a coupla' few shots for the upcoming G:T book "Aslan & K'kree". Didn't think I'd actually get in that one due to other commitments, but Loren contacted me and I'm more than happy to help out :) Oh, forgot to mention. BayCon has come and go, but due to work commitments I was never able to do the poster thing for it's art show. However, due to TML response I do still plan on sitting down with a local printing outfit and seeing about large format prints of selected pieces from my ship gallery. More as I know it. June 7th, 1999 - Posted a picture of the Aslan Ktihui Courier and the Khtukhao Clan Transport. Thanks to Andy Akins for the deckplans!! April 19th, 1999 - Due to overwhelming interest shown during the BayCon series of TML posts, I'm looking into having poster-sized versions of some of my artwork printed. I'm thinking of limited print runs (75-100), with low number of autographed / numbered copies available. These will most likely NOT be art lithographies, but I still want the quality up there. More info as it's available. April 19th, 1999 - This news section goes up. I've created this section to keep Traveller folks informed as to what I'm currently working on, what's new that's appeared on the site, etc. |
