Born near the Imperial Core, to a relatively successful merchant family,
Viktor shipped off planet aboard merchant vessels to learn more of the
skills needed to enter the family business. Within months of leaving home,
Viktor's unique abilities landed him a job with one of the major Vilani
insurance corporations in the Capital Sector. His job was simple,
investigate claims made by merchants and starship operators. By the time
he was 28, Viktor Black was well known to most independent ship operators
who traded along the mains. One thing Viktor hated was a liar or a cheat.
His job centered around exposing those who chose this path in life at the
expense of their insurance companies. Nothing wrong with filing a valid
claim, but only a fool would risk Viktor Black showing up to investigate a
fake claim.

His unique charm, extreme self confidence, and unending taste for the finer
things in life made him a very large target for those who felt that they
had been "cheated' and suffered at his hands. By the time Viktor was 35,
his arrogance and successes had forced him into an early retirement on the
Imperial Frontiers.

Having made enemies from all walks of life, Viktor felt that exploring the
possibilities of life in the recent war zone of the Spinward Marches would
allow a man of his caliber to start a new life, far from the scum who dogged
him in his former employment.
